Dallas Fire Rescue responded to 27 patients, including five who were taken to local hospitals, spokesman Jason Evans said. One spectator required CPR when the individual collapsed from an unknown medical emergency shortly after the parade began. Evans said medics revived the patient, who is expected to recover.

The event’s 40th installment honored former parade presidents and featured 1,700 other participants. The event has grown to be one of the largest St. Patrick’s Day parades in the country, with more than 90 entries.

Proceeds benefit the Greenville Avenue Area Business Association Scholarship Fund, which has donated more than $115,000 to Dallas Independent School District seniors.
