White Rock United Methodist Church received a $750,000 grant to create food, recreational, educational and medical programs at its Owenwood campus in Far East Dallas, the Rev. Mitchell Boone said.

The three-year grant from the QuadW Foundation will be used to develop a full-service campus at Owenwood Farm & Neighborhood Space and address the causes and effects of poverty in ZIP code 75228.

In $250,000-a-year increments, the will be used to jumpstart renovations so community partners can continue their programs and expand neighborhood services. Community partners include: Hope Supply Co., Diapers, Etc., White Rock Community Church, Dallas United Crew, Simple Church, North Texas Food Bank, Aberg Center for Literacy, Linden Grove Theatre Co., Grow North Texas and Ferguson Road Initiative.

The grant will also help the church form new partnerships to create a large community garden, programs for senior neighbors and after-school programming for the students of Conner Elementary, Boone said.
