But the old Casa Linda Theater is now a grocery store. And with our white-hot real estate market and building climate, there are plenty of old properties in our neighborhood that could be at risk of destruction.

Preservation Dallas is working on its 2016 most-endangered architecture list, and the nonprofit wants input from neighbors. Nominate a building, roadside sign, bridge, monument or other public art, historic or cultural landscape or archaeological site for the endangered architecture list using this form. Nominations are due by Friday, Aug. 5.

Three properties in our neighborhood topped last year’s list. They were Aldredge House on Swiss Avenue, the Bianchi house on Reiger and the former Brink’s Coffee Shop on Gaston.

Other Lakewood/East Dallas properties previously have made the list, including the aforementioned Casa Linda Theater, the Lakewood Heights neighborhood, streetcar retail shops and the Ross Avenue Baptist Church, which burned in 2002 and was demolished two years later.
