The Lakewood Country Club presented a fireworks show Valentine's Day eve.

If you happened by Lakewood Country Club, Gaston & Abrams, about 8:45 p.m. Tuesday on your way to or from a big sweetheart celebration, you may have heard what initially sounded like the start of a Jason Bourne movie.

But alas (or perhaps thank goodness), the Lakewood shopping village wasn’t under siege and the famed Lakewood Rats weren’t using automatic weapons at Dixie House.

Instead, you were treated to a 10-minute-or-so fireworks display next to the club’s driving range.

UPDATE ON WEDNESDAY MORNING: I talked with a spokesman from the country club, and the show was paid for by a member to surprise his wife, so no country club money was involved and that’s why there was no advance warning.

The guy’s wife was certainly treated to a great show: The fireworks compared pretty well with the annual 4th of July show the club presents, and it was a nice change of pace from all of that lovey-dovey stuff on Valentine’s Day, too.
