East Dallas-based Times Ten Cellars sent out an email last week saying they haven’t been able to harvest grapes for the last two years. Thus, they have decided to host their five-course wine dinner, which will be prepared by chef Joey Crowell, at the Cathedral Mountain Vineyard in Alpine, Texas.
The downside — or the upside, depending on how you look at it — is that Alpine, Texas, is more than seven hours away. (Or you could fly Southwest Airlines into Midland, Texas, and rent a car and drive three hours instead.)
The upside is that you can watch the sun set over the mountains behind the vineyard, and there will be food, wine, a bonfire, and stargazing.
You can either chose to participate in the wine dinner on Friday, Sept. 26 or Saturday, Sept. 27. The appetizer and sparkling wine course begins at 6 p.m. and the dinner starts at 7 p.m. There are hotels available in Alpine, or there are bed and breakfast inns available in nearby Fort Davis.
You’ll need register for this trip in advance by emailing Kert Platner at kert@timestencellars.com. The cost is $85 per person, including tax and gratuity. Space is limited to 35 guests.
