First Gold Rush Cafe is in a movie, and now Ships Lounge is the star of a commercial. A film crew was posted up at the dive bar all day. The producer, who was really nice but had 100 other things to do than talk to reporters, would only tell me that it was for a National Football League commercial.
The bar’s owner, Charlie Hunt, told me that he thinks it’s a national commercial that will start airing in August. "I think they thought it looked like an old neighborhood bar, and it was set up the way they wanted it," he said. Charlie has owned the place, which is known for the old soul and country on its jukebox, for 30 years. He’s looking to hire a bartender, by the way.
