Katie Podkowa Crowley is a certified Irish dance teacher, and she just moved to Dallas from Chicago because her husband is pursuing an MBA at SMU.

Crowley has opened her own studio, Cru Capaill Academy of Irish Dance, in space she’s renting from United Dance Academy on Mockingbird at Abrams.

As Crowley has virtually no contacts in Dallas, she decided to offer some free classes in an effort to gain clients.

Children ages 4 and older are invited to try the beginner class from 6-7 p.m. Wednesdays. No prior dance experience is required.

Here is a rundown of qualifications Crowley sent us:

-I am one of 9 certified Irish dance teachers in Texas
-I have 22 years of dance experience
-I’ve competed at the regional, national and world championship level
-I’ve performed at a variety of venues including the White House lawn, halftime at the Chicago Bears and Bulls games, Disney World, and at a number of concerts and other performances

Email Crowley to reserve a spot in the free class: crucapaillacademy@gmail.com.

If you’re bringing your kid to class, they should wear T-shirts and shorts or a skirt, and they will dance in their socks or ballet slippers.

For inspiration, consider that Riverdance is coming to Fair Park Music Hall in February. And check out the trailer for this documentary “Jig,” which aired on TLC this past weekend.
