Promptly at 5 p.m. on May 21, best friend duo Austin Rodgers and Jeff Bekavac greeted the neighborhood at the corner stop of Goodwin and Greenville Avenue.

Rodgers, who owns Alamo Club and Mayer’s Garden, and Bekavac, who worked as culinary director for Neighborhood Services, Cane Rosso and others, the duo are no strangers to East Dallas.

Once Blue Goose closed in March 2023 after nearly 40 years, Bekavac said snagging the property at the corner of Goodwin and Greenville was a “no-brainer,” according to previous Advocate reporting.

“That part of Greenville Avenue has always been special for me and for a lot of people,” he said.

Goodwin’s offers a wide selection of dishes such as salads, fish, pasta and oysters. But there’s no need to overthink your choice as the menu specializes in classic American plates like the bone in pork chop, half chicken and mashed potatoes or rigatoni Genovese.

Despite its upscale appearance, Bekavac shares that the restaurant is intended to be a dinner spot where parents can feel comfortable taking their kids on a weekday.

True to its name, the restaurant carries a play on words, riddled with neighborhood references, by naming cocktails after nearby streets, such as the Marquita Rita, the Lakeshore Paloma and Goodwin Martini, all of which can be enjoyed in their 22-seat sidebar, Goose Bar.

The bar and restaurant exude an intimate and cozy dining experience with a “timeless look,” featuring light woods, lower ceilings and moody lights.

The restaurant is located at 2905 Greenville Avenue and will begin with dinner service and will eventually expand to offer lunch mid-summer, according to The Dallas Morning News.
