After the bald eagles’ nest fell earlier this week because of high winds, neighbors started looking for solutions.

It’s possible that the eagles are trying to repurpose another nest by building it up. But as The Advocate reported yesterday, the birds could give up after a few days; we just have to wait and see.

An idea was floating around to create nesting platforms for the eagles. They’re tall poles built near bodies of water, where eagles and other birds often search for food, and they have a platform on which the birds can assemble a nest.

The Park and Recreation Department heard about this idea, and Maria Hasbany, the District 9 park board member, shared a response with neighbors. Here’s what she said:

“We are all very concerned about the bald eagles at White Rock Lake and have been in conversation with multiple agencies and biologists to research the option of nesting platforms. Based on what we have learned, it is not advisable to pursue a platform in this situation or location. As much as it sounds like a simple fix, the nature of bald eagles and their nesting behavior would not warrant this solution. However, this has opened some excellent discussion on how we can incorporate these nesting platforms into areas where eagles have been spotted or are already nesting. Stay tuned for more info on that.”
