Lindy Cockburn

The new A&E show “Heavy” is on my radar because it comes on after my guilty pleasure, “Intervention”. The one-hour show follows morbidly obese people through six months of weight loss. And it’s set in Texas. Many of the characters come from the Houston area, and they spend 30 days working with trainers, dietitians and counselors at Lake Austin Spa.

But last night’s episode starred 37-year-old neighborhood resident Lindy Cockburn. You can watch Lindy’s full episode here.

Cockburn, who is 5-foot-6, weighed 284.6 pounds when she started. She says she gained 170 pounds after a divorce. In the episode’s first few minutes, she bravely exposes her belly to the camera.

“This is my fat, really, fat, fat, fat stomach,” she says, despairing.

During the episode, Lindy and her then fiancee Dave Cockburn plan a wedding and get married, with a cake from Romano’s Bakery and a reception at Times Ten Cellars.

That was after she lost 65 pounds.

“They were a real sweet couple,” says Janice Hobbs of Romano’s Bakery, where part of the episode was shot. “They wouldn’t tell us what show it was for, only that it was about weight loss. But we did a cute little cake for them.”
