White Rock Clean-Up Planned November 9; Volunteers Needed
The Texas General Land Office and the Greater East Dallas Chamber of Commerce are sponsoring the first White Rock Shore Clean-Up November 9 from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.
“We are targeting area youths and users of the lake,” says Gary Coleman, a volunteer with the land office. “We don’t want this to be too laborious. We want people to help clean up our lake we love and use.”
Coleman expects more than 3,000 people to turn out for the clean-up, which is being hosted by KEGL-FM. Drawings will be held for bikes, color televisions, T-shirts and other prizes.

Casa Linda Holiday Plans Include Toy Donations for Parkland
A Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony kicks off a series of special holiday season events at Casa Linda Plaza, says Roy Cook, president of the shopping plaza’s merchant’s association and owner of Bryce Studio.
The tree lighting ceremony is scheduled Friday, November 29, from 6-8 p.m. Beginning at 6 p.m., the Dallas Symphony Orchestra Chorus will perform, followed by tree-lighting at 7:30 p.m., Cook says.
The ceremony also launches the plaza’s “Presents for Parkland” toy drive, benefiting children at Parkland Hospital. Toy drop-off boxes will be placed throughout the plaza, and gifts will be collected through December 21.
On Saturday, December 7 and 14, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., the plaza will set up a “petting zoo”, featuring lambs, a potbellied pig, a donkey and other animals. Carolers from local schools will stroll among shoppers, and children can have photos taken with Santa.
SPCA Plans Pet Parade November 9 at Glencoe
Do you have a pet that looks like a rock star? A movie star? Elvis? A donut? (Just kidding about that last one.)
If you do, stop by the SPCA of Texas’ second annual Pet Parade at Glencoe Park November 9 from 10:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. (In the event of rain, the event will be rescheduled for November 10.)
Celebrity judges will award prizes in these categories, as well as for the most unusual pet, the best-dressed pet, the biggest and smallest pets, and the pet that looks most like its owner.
Other entertainment includes a dog agility exhibition, the Dallas mounted police and canine units, the SPCA’s mobile adoption unit, clowns, face painting, a mobile vaccination clinic, and free pet food samples.
Human admission is free; pet registration (one entry per category) is $5 per pet in advance and $7 per pet at the park, located at Martel and North Central Expressway just south of Mockingbird Lane. Registration begins at 9 a.m., and the parade begins at 10:30 a.m.

Indian Princess Program Begins Enrollment at East Dallas YMCA
The East Dallas YMCA continues registration in its Indian Guide program, which is open to children in kindergarten through second grade, says Val England with the YMCA.
The program is based upon American Indian culture, teaching values, attitudes, fitness, love of nature and ethics to children and their parents, England says. Local “tribes” meet monthly in members’ homes, and seasonal campouts are planned at Texas campgrounds.
The East Dallas Y currently offers programs for Indian Princesses (fathers and daughters). Programs for Y-Indian Maidens (mothers and daughters) and Y-Indian Braves (mothers and sons) are expected to begin during the next 12 months.
Among the Indian Princesses activities during the year are a hayride, roller skating, Ranger’s game, banquet and campouts. Contact England at 824-8139 for information and registration.

NEW ADMINISTRATOR NAMED: Gary Wayne Tracy has been named administrator of Garrett Park Manor Health Care Center, 1407 N. Garrett Street. Tracy formerly worked with People Care Centers in Plano and is a member of the American College of Health Care Administrators. The center provides longterm care for elderly residents.
PARK IMPROVEMENTS NOTED: Casa Linda Park has received a $20,000 facelift, courtesy of fundraising efforts by the Casa Linda Neighborhood Association, according to association president John Cochran.
