On the Late Show
Neighborhood resident Dan Koller recently appeared on CBS Television’s “Late Night With David Letterman”. Koller played a member of the audience who was bored with the show, and Letterman tried various methods to wake him up, which included having CBS news’ Connie Chung punch Koller in the stomach and actress Glenn Close sit in Koller’s lap. Koller was a fall intern for the “Letterman Show” and was a summer intern for Advocate Community Newspapers. His mother, neighborhood resident Donna Koller, works with Chicago Title in Lakewood.

ARLINGTON STADIUM KEEPSAKES: Neighborhood resident Christopher Cole is keeping the memory of Arlington Stadium alive with his new company, Texas Baseball Memories. Cole worked with the stadium’s demolition crew to collect pieces of the blue wall and the Texas Rangers dugout that stood behind home plate. He removed hundreds of pounds of the wall before the final section of the stadium was torn down in September. Cole is selling the pieces, packaged in keepsake bags with a souvenir card of the stadium’s history, for $9.95 each. For information, call 828-1244.
AUCTION ITEMS NEEDED: “Moving Colors”, a band headlined by neighborhood resident Bill Brooks, has been selected to perform at the Lakewood Service League’s 13th annual auction party at the Southland Center Hotel, 400 N. Olive, on Feb. 11 at 7:30 p.m.
Athletic attire is suggested for the “Big League Ball”, and sports celebrities such as former Dallas Mavericks Scott Lloyd and Marty Byrnes will be attending. A live and silent auction also will be held. Proceeds from the event benefit neighborhood service organizations and schools. More than $35,000 was donated to neighborhood groups from last year’s auction proceeds.

NEW MUSIC MINISTER: Gary A. Anthony recently joined Gaston Oaks Baptist Church as the church’s new minister of music. Anthony moved to our neighborhood from Arlington where he was the minister of music and minister to senior adults for Mayfield Road Baptist Church.
FREE TENNIS LESSONS: Every Saturday from 4-5:30 p.m., Joe Dinoffer, a nationally known tennis teacher, will conduct drop-in tennis drills for adults of all ability levels for $6 per person at the Samuell-Grand Tennis Center, 6200 East Grand.
