A group of Dallas chefs, including several in East Dallas, has joined forces for a campaign that fundraises for immigrant workers in the food industry in cities across the country.
#AskChefsAnything is an auction in which the winner gets a 30-minute one-on-one Zoom conversation with a local food personality, CultureMap reported.
The auction page is open for viewing. Bidding begins at $100 and increases in increments of $20.
Participating East Dallas chefs include:
- Misti Norris, Petra and the Beast
- Junior Borges, The Village Dallas
- Peja Kristic, Mot Hai Ba
- Abraham Salum, Salum Restaurant
- Donny Sirisavath, Khao Noodle Shop
The idea for the fundraiser came from New York food industry veterans Gaeleen Quinn and Anna Polonsky. Their goal was to help immigrants, a community most impacted by the coronavirus crisis in the restaurant world.
Many immigrant workers do not qualify for federal relief packages and cannot claim unemployment benefits. The goal is to help 250 families in each city connect to community centers.
Harvest Project is the charity partner for the Dallas initiative. It started in 2014 as a community project that assists underserved communities in Dallas. In the past five years, Harvest Project has redistributed more than five million pounds of produce, feeding more than 45,000 families in the Dallas area, CultureMap reported.
