Chandra Nagamallaiah, 50, died in the 3400 block of Samuell Boulevard on Sept. 10 and was discovered to have been cut several times with an edged weapon. Yordanis Cobos-Martinez, the 37-year-old accused of the crime, was arrested and is facing a capital murder charge, according to The DPD Beat. Cobos-Martinez is reportedly not a U.S. citizen and is “on an ICE hold at the Dallas County Jail,” according to a WFAA article.

The Dallas Morning News reported that Nagamallaiah was a motel manager, and Cobos-Martinez was an employee. According to the arrest report, Cobos-Martinez became upset with the manager and attacked (and ultimately, decapitated) Nagamallaiah with a machete.

Nagamallaiah’s friends and family, who refer to him as Chandra Mouli “Bob” Nagamallaiah, have started a GoFundMe page to raise money for funeral expenses, immediate living costs and support for Nagamallaiah’s 18-year-old son as he goes to college. As of after 4 p.m. Sept. 17, the campaign collected $387,272 of the $500,000 goal, thanks to over 6,000 donations.

The GoFundMe page described Nagamallaiah as a “loving husband, devoted father and kind soul who touched the lives of everyone who knew him.” His son recently graduated from high school and is inspired to study hospitality management because of “his father’s hard work and generosity.”
