A few month’s ago we ran a story in the Advocate about financial difficulties at Munger Place UMC, and the members and a pastor still clinging to hope that the church could survive in spite of it all. In this month’s magazine, we covered the bittersweet news about Munger Place closing this summer — sweet in that it would be physically taken care of and later re-opened by Highland Park United Methodist Church. Over the weekend members were dealt another shock when Pastor Stovall announced to the congregation that it would be his last day with the church. According to the member who wrote me about this, Stovall recently underwent several eye surgeries and needs the time off, but says she worries how his absence might affect the next couple of months.  Meanwhile, a new pastor will be assigned.
