Donate unused children’s books that your kids have outgrown to Monster Yogurt’s annual book drive and get free frozen yogurt as a sweet reward.
Customers can drop off up to five new or gently used books per visit starting Feb. 1. Each book is good for 1 free ounce of yogurt.
The books will be donated to low-income schools, shelters and Annie’s Place, a Mommies in Need child care center at Parkland Hospital, on March 2 for the National Education Association’s Read Across America. The yearly observance takes place on Dr. Seuss’ birthday and celebrates reading.
Last year, Monster Yogurt donated 1,000 books. The goal this year is to collect 2,021 books.
“We are a place to go with kids in tow without spending a lot of dough, so to speak,” Monster Yogurt founder Ava Skipworth said. “We’re always looking for ways to empower young people. In fact, we take pride in offering first-job experience for many neighborhood teens. What’s the point of owning a small, local business if you can’t give back? We’re looking forward to delivering enough books for each child to take home. Many of the children would never own a book otherwise.”
