The race to replace former Dallas ISD trustee and new Texas Education Agency Commissioner Mike Morath is in full swing. From 5:30-7 p.m. tonight, Feb. 9, District 2 candidate Suzanne Smith will be at Lakewood’s Times Ten Cellars for a meet and greet, and at 6:30 p.m. tomorrow night, Feb. 10, candidate Dustin Marshall will host his official campaign kick-off at his Preston Hollow home. Both wine and hors d’oeuvres events are open to the public.

Smith and Marshall will meet face-to-face at the March 1 Lakewood Neighborhood Association meeting, 6:30-8 p.m at Times Ten’s annex. It won’t be a formal debate or a forum; the candidates will simply have the chance make their case of why they would be the best person to represent District 2.

Political alliances already are forming around the two candidates, but as we know, so few people vote in DISD elections that how these candidates come across during small gatherings — and how many people actually show up — could make a major impact.
