During his recent campaign, Councilman Mark Clayton promised to make Casa View a priority, and the VIP list at his budget town hall meeting Thursday night seems to indicate his commitment to that promise.

Dallas Mayor Mike Rawlings, Police Chief David Brown and City Manager A.C. Gonzalez all will be present to hear what Casa View and surrounding East Dallas neighbors think about how the city spends its money. Gonzalez will be giving the budget presentation.

Casa View is the “biggest opportunity in the district in terms of resurgence,” Clayton says, noting the area’s blight and crime. “I wanted to make sure the highest eyes in the city were paying attention.”

The meeting begins at 6:30 p.m. Thursday night, Aug. 20, at Harry Stone Recreation Center. It’s Clayton’s second neighborhood meeting to host; the first was last Thursday at Ridgewood Recreation Center. Jill Jordan, an assistant city manager who oversees streets and public works, presided over that presentation because of the street problems on the west side of Clayton’s district, he says. His final budget town hall will be next Tuesday, Aug. 25, at Lake Highlands Baptist Church.

Councilman Philip Kingston, who also represents parts of East Dallas, co-hosted a budget town hall last night at the Dallas Performance Hall, and will host one next Tuesday, Aug. 25, at Klyde Warren Park. That town hall can be attended virtually via a City of Dallas website.
