Last week, my stylist at Blow Salon told me she had heard rumors that Matt’s Rancho Martinez would be moving to The Consignment Solution space after Matt’s current Lakewood Shopping Center lease is up in February 2012. (We also had been told recently by by two different Matt’s waiters that the restaurant would reopen on Lakewood Boulevard and on Lower Greenville.)

Today, after eating lunch at La Calle Doce, we noticed The Consignment Solution‘s sign being removed from the facade, so stopped in. Store employees said that they are moving across the street, from 1904 to 1931 Skillman (north of La Calle Doce and next to Cox’s Lock and Key). The grand reopening is Saturday Dec. 3. When we asked what would fill their current space, they told us that Matt’s is the new tenant, though likely not for a while since moving into the space will require a complete overhaul. They also said the reason for their move is a new landlord — the property changed hands this past July, according to this Dallas Morning News report — and they are excited about the new, updated location, which will be pretty much the same amount of space.

We learned from the Consignment Solution that Paperbacks Plus, located behind it, is also moving, so we stopped into the used bookstore, too. Employees there told us their current spot was purchased in 1994, and when a new owner came in and bought the adjacent shopping center, they decided it would be a good time to sell. They’re looking into other spots nearby, they said, and don’t plan to move very far.

From what we were told, it sounds as though one owner purchased both the shopping strip in which Consignment Solution, Paperbacks Plus and others currently are located, as well as the property across the street, where Consignment Solution is moving, and the property across La Vista from Paperbacks Plus and Consignment Solution, home to the Wine Therapist and, until its recent closure, Molly Maguire’s. The new owner, we heard, is wanting to redevelop these shopping centers. We’ll continue looking into this and keep you updated on the blog.
