A nonprofit that helps women achieve sobriety celebrated the opening of a new $3.5 million treatment center on Gaston Avenue with a ribbon cutting Thursday.
The Magdalen House relocated its services to a renovated historic home at 4513 Gaston Ave. The building provides 76 percent more space and includes a dedicated room for its Next Step program and a community room that has doubled in size for hosting recovery meetings and fellowship events.
The nonprofit was previously located in Little Forest Hills, where it operated for 25 years. The property was bestowed to the organization as a gift in 1996. It has been sold to a new owner.
Renovation work on the new building began in 2019. Omniplan Architects designed the project, and Buford Hawthorne Builders was the general contractor.
“It has truly been a privilege to work with The Magdalen House on their much-needed new home,” KDC Development CEO Steve Van Amburgh said in a statement. “Serving others is a good thing for our community, yet even more so our company. “One of KDC’s core beliefs and values is giving back to those communities in which we work, live and raise our families. In those communities, we love to partner with not-for-profits on their various projects.”
The residential program is currently the only service offered in person, but The Magdalen House plans to resume in-person operations for its Next Step program and 12-Step community meetings over the summer.
