It’s no surprise that women see the world differently than men. But in a world where most of Hollywood’s directors are men, the female voice isn’t always heard in popular culture. Lunafest aims to give a platform to female filmmakers by offering a night of short films made by women.

This Thursday, May 12, beginning at 5:30 p.m., the 15th annual national touring festival lands in Dallas at the Angelika Theater at Mockingbird Station. The night includes six short films that look at issues ranging from cultural diversity to motherhood.

Tickets are $40 (available here) and include a wine and cheese reception. Proceeds from the night benefit the Breast Cancer Fund and Zonta Club of Dallas, the oldest professional woman’s organization in the city, which will spend the donated dollars on its scholarships program.

Created by Luna nutritional bars, Lunafest has raised over $857,000 for Breast Cancer Fund and over $2,100,000 for other nonprofit organizations focused on women in its 15-year history.
