The bakery celebrated its grand opening Sept. 25, with over 300 people in attendance, co-owner Ismael Trejo says. He and his wife, Maria Becerra, have been working on the pastry shop for a long time.

Lubellas is located on Ferguson Road near Gus Thomasson in a space that was most recently a snow cone shop. The owners say it already had a grease trap and hood, two of the most expensive parts of a commercial kitchen.

But during the renovation process, they found asbestos, so the entire space had to be rebuilt. Now, it’s bright and open. The display cases are the first things you see when you walk in, and there are several tables in the main area to seat guests while they snack. (Trejo also pointed out the bathrooms, which have been newly remodeled and outfitted with whimsical tile on the floor and walls.)

This morning, the bakery was selling chocolate and plain croissants, Mexican conchas, cinnamon rolls, cream cheese danishes, pecan loaves, muffins and tarts with pears and almonds, along with a few other desserts. But Trejo says they have plans to start selling sandwiches at lunch, including chicken pesto salad and ham with pepper jack on croissants, and ham with tomatoes and Manchego cheese on baguettes. They’re also working on getting a permit to sell wine and beer so they can offer mimosas and sangria at brunch.

Treats are baked fresh daily. The bakery is located at 10323 Ferguson Road and is open 7 a.m.-7 p.m. Monday-Saturday and 7 a.m.-6 p.m. Sunday.
