16th annual Long Run

The 21st annual Long Run will be Thursday evening and will start and finish in front of J.L. Long Middle School. There will be a 1K Family Fun Run/Walk and a certified 5K that will take runners along the Santa Fe Trail and through the neighborhood. Festivities begin at 5:30 p.m. and each participant receives a t-shirt and dinner. Registration for kids is $20 and adults is $40. Learn more and register here.

The battle for East Dallas football supremacy is this Friday night at Forester Field at 8223 Military Parkway. Woodrow Wilson takes on neighbor Bryan Adams at 7 p.m. Tickets are $10.

Neighbors have a number of opportunities to up their dental bill and get Halloween candy this weekend. There is evening trick-or-treating in the Children’s Adventure Garden at the Arboretum for $10 Friday through Sunday from 6 to 9 p.m, which will include a maze tour and Halloween-themed lab. Lipscomb, Sanger and Mata elementary are all holding Trunk or Treats. Lipscomb’s will be on Friday from 7 to 9 p.m. while Sanger’s is Saturday from 5:30-7 p.m. and Mata’s will be on Saturday from 4 to 7 p.m. with Snow Baby shaved ice. Lastly, families can trick or treat down Greenville Avenue on Saturday, beginning at 11 a.m. Visit the strip’s businesses and restaurants for candy and even a Greenville Avenue Pizza Co. pie topped with Nutella, Candy Corn and other sweets.

On Friday, the Exodus Power Breakfast will take place at the Lakewood Country Club. Exodus helps previously incarcerated women reunite with their children and rebuild their lives. Guest speaker Mark Casson is a husband, father, businessman, author and church leader who spent more than 15 years in California’s prison system. Tickets are $35.

The American Institute of Architects Home Tour will feature two homes in the neighborhood in Forest Hills and Knox-Henderson. The tour will be Saturday and Sunday from 10 a.m.to 5 p.m. Tickets are $25.

The Lakewood Craft Fair will be taking place at Lakewood United Methodist Church on Saturday from 8 a.m.to 4 p.m. Get a head start on Christmas shopping and support local artisans.

Half-Price Books will be hosting illustrator and graphic novelist Nidhi Chanani on Sunday at 5 p.m. where she will discuss her debut graphic novel, “Pashmina.” Books will be available for purchase at the event.

Skillman Church of Christ’s Fall Festival will be Sunday night from 4 to 6 p.m. There will be games, food, and fun as well as a reverse food truck, so bring canned goods to donate.The church put together an entertaining rewrite and music video to Justin Timberlake’s “Can’t Stop the Feeling.” Check it out here.

Boy Scout Troop 64 will be hosting their 49th annual spaghetti dinner on Monday evening from 5:30 to 8 p.m. at Northridge Presbyterian Church in Lakewood. There will be dine in service as well as a drive-thru option. Individual tickets are $8 and a family of four is $30.

The Dallas Storytelling Guild presents an evening of seriously spooky stories at the Bath House Cultural Center in Lake Highlands Friday at 7 p.m. The terrifying tales are suggested for adults only and are not for the faint of heart. Tickets will be $10 at the door. On Saturday, the group hosts a “Children’s Spooky Tales” concert at 2 p.m.
