When Brad Perry saw his representative, Victoria Neave, get busted for a DWI near the Lakewood Country Club this summer, he decided to run for office. While he knows everyone makes mistakes and deserves second chances, he feels that public servants should be held to a higher standard.
Perry didn’t feel there was anyone representing the needs of everyone in the district, and wanted to make a difference.
He filed to run for Texas House District 107, which covers Lakewood, parts of East Dallas and Mesquite.
“Conservative policies are lowering crime and making Texas an economic leader,” Perry said in a press release. “Now we must address sky rocketing property taxes and our school funding mess.”
Perry grew up in Louisiana, cleaning out the cages of his father’s veterinary clinic in his first job. He went to LSU where he met his wife, and then attended SMU for law school, graduating in 2015. He now lives in Lochwood with his wife and two young children.
Led by his Christian faith, Perry works as assistant general counsel for Human Coalition, whose website says they “to do all we can to remove the stain of abortion from America.” The organization offers support for mothers and families in crisis and advocates to end abortion.
“We look at circumstances to see if there is anything we can do to help,” Perry says. “We want to see how we can help them choose life.”
Perry’s brother has Down Syndrome, and he prioritizes caring for those with developmental disabilities.
He wants to make sure all students have access to great teachers, and that effective teachers get paid more. He wants to push for school choice and increase the state’s funding so that East Dallas’ property taxes don’t continue to rise to pay for local schools. “Education is the best investment into our future,”he says. “Every kid deserves a great education no matter where they come from.”
“Brad Perry is a strong conservative who is 100 percent pro-life, a member of the NRA, and supports border security,” the press release says.
Brad Perry will face Deanna Maria Metzger, a lawyer from Mesquite in the Republican primary. The winner will face Neave, the freshman Legislator of the Year for the Democrats in the Texas House. The Republican primary is March 6, and the general election will take place Nov. 6.
