The Lakewood Botanical Society is celebrating three decades of making our neighborhood more beautiful.
The group has worked on various projects around the neighborhood, including caring for the triangular space at the intersection of Gaston and Cambria near Whole Foods, which they took over in 1994.
The club raised over $10,000 over the years for various Lakewood projects. These days, the group holds meetings about Japanese gardens, orchids, tulips, flower arranging and cooking with herbs. What began as a women’s club in 1988 now boast two men in the ranks and their recent projects include adding greenery to the intersection of Mockingbird and Williamson.
The group presented an award to its founder, Nancy Cherryholmes who started the group at a celebration this week.
“I think it’s amazing a club formed 30 years ago is still going strong,” says Lakewood Botanical Society president Marianne Howells.
