The ponds of Carolyn Bush, 9535 Riverton; Curtis and Julia Carpenter, 4951 Victor; and Marsha and Jim Drebelbis, 723 Lowell, are on the tour.

The Carpenters, Munger Place residents since 1977, participated in the tour last year, Julia says.

“There was a steady stream of people who came to our home,” she says. “It seems to be this big trend – water gardening.”

Most of the tourists were considering constructing their own ponds and wanted ideas, Julia says.

The Carpenters built their pond three years ago with the help of Steve Moeller, who owns Water Gardens Galore, 4715 W. Lovers. Their pond is home to goldfish, bullfrogs and lily pads.

“With a pond, it really doesn’t seem like you’re right in the middle of the city,” Julia says. “It’s very serene.”

The Carpenters joined the North Texas Water Garden Society, which is sponsoring the tour, while building their pond. Through the society, they have learned about pond plants and animal life, Julia says.

Pond tour maps are on sale for $5 at Water Gardens Galore.
