Forgo the typical Saturday night dinner-movie-contemporary dance club trifecta and step back in time at a 1920s-themed ball featuring East Dallas’ own Matt Tolentino and his Singapore Slingers at Sons of Hermann Hall (3414 Elm) from 8 -11:30 p.m. March 3.

Says Tolentino (whom you might remember from this ol’ article), “We’ll be performing fox trots, waltzes, rhumbas, tangos … bluesy ballads, ragtime, and more … drag a sock on one of the most beautiful dance floors in Texas” (I think that’s some early 20th-century colloquialism for ‘dance your rear off’).

Tix are $30 at the door and you can park at Brake and Clutch across the street.

Already making excuses? Your Charlston need a little polishing? Or do you need to learn from scratch? The day of the dance, the nearby Rhythm Room is hosting a daylong dance workshop (noon-5 p.m.) taught by Matt Tolentino’s wife, Danielle, who is schooled in historic dance. Admission for the workshop plus the dance is $60 early, and $70 at the door (workshop alone is $45, or $50 at the door). More info and tickets available here at therhythmroom.net.
