There is much good news for those of us who want a chance to vote on the Trinity River toll road. The other guys are terrified we might get a chance.

How else to explain Her Mayorness’ appearance on KRLD yesterday? She was at her charming, patronizing, infuriating best, relegating those of us who disagree with her to some sort of poor, misguided lunatic fringe. Angela Hunt, the councilwoman who is spearheading the petition drive to put the toll road referendum on the November ballot, got the worst of it, but she is probably used to it by now.

What was truly terrifying, though, was Miller’s promise to have anti-referendum truth squads hounding anyone who tried to sign petitions at polling places next month. You’ll have to moved forward to the 19-minute mark to hear this, but when you do, you’ll hear an elected official actually saying an effort needed to be made to stop people from exercising their constitutional rights. That’s a new one, even for  cynical me. By the way, fair warning to anyone tries to stop me from signing a petition: Be prepared to put up with one damned angry voter.

So why would Miller say this? Because she must be scared that the Trinity Vote group can get the 50,000 signatures it needs to get the issue on the ballot. Because, if we’re the fringe group everyone says we are, why go to all this trouble? Couldn’t be because we’re actually on to something here, is it?
