As school starts back up and routines settle in for the fall, restaurateurs are hoping to seize the day in our neighborhood with a flurry of new, newish and coming soon restaurants.
Laotian noodle spot called Khao Noodle Shop will be sliding into the new development where Mai’s Vietnamese Restaurant made its new home at 4812 Bryan Street, #101. The restaurant is a project from Chef Donny Sirisavath, who has made appearances at Asian Night Market at the Bomb Factory, the Buddhist Temple of Dallas and other pop-up events from Cedars restaurant Sandwich Hag. Octopus tacos, beef and chicken soups and even a Spam, rice and seaweed concoction will be joined by Laotian beer options. The restaurant is located in the Old East Dallas neighborhood where Sirisavath’s wife’s parents and many other Southeast Asian refugees called home. Khao should open up in late September.
The word khao means rice or food, but ‘khao gun’ means come together. “The name represents everything I hope the shop to become—a home for friends and family to come together to enjoy great Laotian food,” Sirisavath said via media release.
The old Victor Tangos location will soon have a new restaurant, called Felix Culpa. Massimiliano Sgarbi, who worked for Lombardi Family Concepts (Penne Pomodoro, Toulouse), told CultureMap, “”We’ll do contemporary New American with a European influence.” The menu will include calamari, Kobe sliders, ceviche, flatbreads, a dry aged burger and more. Felix Culpa will head into a Henderson strip that just lost Mesero this week.
Hoodline made note of some new spots near Lower Greenville, including Rush Bowls in Mockingbird Station. The healthy new eatery serves a variety of mixed fruit and grain bowls, including a set of acai bowls.
Another Poke restaurant rolled into East Dallas, as Mamasan House of Poke is now open at 2818 N. Fitzhugh Ave. It will serve the traditional Hawaiian bowls of seafood, veggies and sauces as well as chicken and pork options. The bowls can also be served as a wrap. There is no shortage of Poke in the neighborhood.
