dpdMore than 100 volunteers spent part of their Labor Day weekend showing their appreciation for police officers spending the holiday at work.

Neighbors Kevin Hunt and Kristie Smith organized Feed the Force, an event that provided lunch for the officers at the Northeast substation at 9915 Northwest Highway.

“I think I can speak on behalf of Kevin Hunt and myself, that we are truly touched by how many people contributed to make this happen,” Smith says. “All the officers I spoke with were so grateful. Because of you all, we fed approximately 150 to 200 officers today.

People brought brisket, pulled pork, sausage, pulled chicken, a variety of sides and desserts for the on-duty officers.

Hunt says the volunteers that gave their time are “amazing neighbors that have offered to put their shoulder to the wheel and support this effort in one way or another.”
