Five area homes will be featured November 8-9 during the Lakewood Preschool PTA’s 15th annual Lakewood Home Festival, with proceeds benefiting Lakewood Elementary School. “The homes range in age from two years to almost 70 years,” says Kathy Daume, home festival chairman. “The architectural styles range from English Tudor to Southern plantation.”

The home festival also includes a craft fair at Lakewood Elementary, 3000 Hillbrook. About 65 local artists will sell homemade wearable art, jewelry, Christmas yard art, wreaths, ornaments, pottery, quilts and children’s clothes.

“The prices will be reasonable for one-of-a-kind items,” says Debbie Crabb, craft fair chairman.

The newest home on the tour, built in 1989 on a lakefront lot, features a Natchez-style porch with white pillars. The second-floor includes rooms designed “to enchant and entertain the homeowners’ many grandchildren,” Daume says.

The oldest home on the tour was built in 1927 and has been updated to include a master suite with Jacuzzi, dressing area and extensive closets.

“The overall décor reflects the international flair of the homeowners, who have recently relocated from France,” Daume says.

The most acclaimed home has been featured in the Dallas Morning News. The Gothic revival home is filled with items ranging from wild-animal prints to Turkish prayer rugs, all obtained during the owners’ travels.

The largest home is a turn-of-the-century prairie-style with a wrap-around porch, “a perfect setting for the owners’ young children,” Daume says. Several nationally televised commercials have been filmed in the large, country kitchen. The home also features an electric train display room, formerly one of the home’s five bedrooms.

A ranch-style home in the Cloisters completes the tour. Art, sculptures and antiques fill the home, which is tucked away on a cul de sac.

The festival is scheduled from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day; tickets are $6 in advance and $7 at the door. Tickets are available at Lakewood Elementary, Minyard’s in Lakewood, and the Sample House at Casa Linda Plaza. Admission to the craft fair is $2, although a home festival ticket allows you into the craft fair without additional charge.

Refreshments and snacks also will be served. For information, call Kathy Daume at 823-6505.
