A Lancaster couple was arrested Wednesday on charges of fraudulently transferring $1.1 million in property deeds that belonged to the estate of a former Lakewood Elementary teacher, Channel 8 reported.
Belinda and Anthony Tucker are charged with theft of property worth more than $300,000.
Attorney Alisha Melvin, who represents the estate of the late Arnold Young, said the Tuckers transferred nine property deeds to themselves and one other person without consent, the ABC affiliate reported.
Young, 82, died in February. The former Lakewood Elementary English teach worked for the Dallas Independent School District for more than 30 years.
Melvin started investigating the Tuckers after a tenant at one of the nine properties didn’t pay rent, according to Channel 8. She found that the property deed had been transferred to the tenant with the couple’s help. Young’s eight other properties also no longer belonged to his estate.
“They all had the exact same deed, the exact same language, and they were notarized by Belinda Tucker herself,” Melvin told the station. “They’re basically running a scam where they try to amass properties and then sell them to unsuspecting third parties.”Â
