Dallas ISD schools are closed today, but this video gives us a look inside Lakewood Elementary.
The video, silent film from 1961, shows families enrolling students at the neighborhood school.
Mothers walk with their kids into the building, and they’re greeted by friendly faces who help with the enrollment process.
A lot has changed since 1961, but the iconic “Lakewood School” letters are visible. The school was relatively new then, and over time, it has been expanded and renovated to meet growing demand.
To get another look at what life was like at Lakewood, check out this video. We shared it several years ago. It documents a field day at the campus in 1954 and was shot by the brother of one of our readers, who would have been in fourth grade at the time.
