More than a year after construction stopped on an East Dallas bridge, workers are expected to resume the project in July, City of Dallas officials said.City contractor Iowa Bridge & Culvert LLC is scheduled to remobilize and begin construction on the Lakeland bridge near Ferguson Road in about a month, District 9 City Councilman Mark Clayton said Tuesday in a Facebook post.

The project stopped in April 2018 when  crews discovered AT&T fiber optic lines serving the adjacent neighborhood under the bridge, the Advocate previously reported.

In April 2019, an AT&T contractor dug new trenches and installed empty conduit pipes to transfer copper and fiber optic wires from old existing lines. That work, which will continue into June, is 75 percent complete, Clayton said.

Once AT&T relocates their utilities, Iowa Bridge & Culvert will be able to resume work on the project, which is expected to be complete in December 2019. The bridge remains closed until that time.

Construction on a second bridge near Lakeland Drive and Ash Grove Way was completed in November 2018 and is open.
