At a town hall Wednesday at Greenland Hills United Methodist, the former NFL linebacker told constituents he has worked on several bipartisan bills during his five months in office. The first-term congressman, who was sworn in during the country’s longest government shutdown, serves on the veterans’ affairs, foreign affairs and transportation and infrastructure committees.

On those committees, Allred said he’s advocated for a high-speed train between Dallas and Houston and the creation of a VA hospital in Garland. He also spoke against state legislation to restrict women’s reproductive rights and spending bills that would fund a border wall between the United States and Mexico.

“This is my home,” he said. “I was born and raised here. I love this community and am focused on serving these interests in D.C.”
