John Tesar, the chef behind East Dallas steakhouse Knife, won a Michelin star.
Tesar won the honor for his restaurant Knife & Spoon, which is located in the Ritz-Carlton in Orlando, Florida, The Dallas Morning News reported.
Knife is located at The Highland Dallas hotel, near North Central Expressway and E. Mockingbird Lane.
The rating system originated in France. Brothers Andre and Edouard Michelin founded the Michelin tire company and wanted to help drivers develop their trips, prompting care and tire sales, so they developed a brief guide with helpful information, maps and tips on where to eat or stay the night.
Guides were free until one of the brothers saw them being used to prop up a workbench. Then, they started charging 7 francs for the Michelin Guide.
In 1926, the guide began awarding stars for fine-dining establishments, and five years after that, they established a hierarchy of zero, one, two and three stars. In 1936, the criteria for the rankings were published.
Tesar isn’t the only chef with a restaurant in our neighborhood who’s earning national recognition. Carte Blanche on Lowest Greenville earned five stars from the Forbes Travel Guide this year.
