When teachers at Prairie Trail Elementary in Lewisville reported to work Friday, they were welcomed by an entourage of people holding positive yard signs created by our neighbor.

Prairie Trail is one of several schools in the greater Dallas area partnering with the Lakewood-based business Kindfetti to encourage teachers and students who may feel anxious about returning to school.

“We’re asking a lot of teachers to do more than can really be comprehended, and to have an encouraging “You’re a difference maker” sign when you get there is comforting,” Kindfetti founder Sharon Bridges said.

Bridges is working with parent-teacher associations to place uplifting signs in every classroom at 10 different schools, including Lakewood and Alex Saner elementary schools. She’s also pitched her idea to William B. Travis and J.L. Long middle schools.

“People are feeling trepidatious about sending kids back, but they are responding well to a little encouragement,” Brides said.

Bridges started Kindfetti about two years ago after she organized a group of volunteers to paint motivational messages on bathroom stalls at Long. Now she’s back trying to spread kindness in the classroom.

There’s still time to participate, and Bridges has reduced the price for PTAs that order more than 50 signs.

Purchase the signs on Instagram. Orders can be picked up or delivered.
