JuJu’s Coffee is moving into the old Coffee Company, which closed in December after 40 years in business.

Nick Rocha, who owns JuJu’s Coffee with his wife, Julia — whose nickname is JuJu — said they were offered the space on La Vista last fall. They had been talking with the Coffee Company about whether they would acquire the longtime business or transform it into JuJu’s.

“But the owner of the Coffee Company kind of just wanted to retire, and we all thought it best that she retired and the Coffee Company retired, like they retired together,” Rocha said.

The Rochas have been remodeling the space, painting the ceiling a rich blue and the floors pink, and turning it into a takeout coffee shop.

Beans from Richardson-based Eiland Coffee Roasters and Plano-based Coffee del Rey will be available. And customers will be able to purchase teas, hot chocolate and seasonal drinks and specialities such as the Otis latte and Neapolitan latte. Taking the same name as the JuJu’s Coffee Airstream, the Otis latte is a half-sweet, brown sugar, vanilla oat milk latte. The Neapolitan latte is a white chocolate mocha with strawberry.

“It’s not super sweet,” Rocha said. “It’s balanced really well. It’s really good, which, it’ll fit for spring time, summer time as well.”

They also want to sell vintage-looking sodas and waters available for people who don’t drink coffee.

The Rochas will operate Otis the Airstream while the store is open. They often serve coffee out of it at weddings and other events in McKinney, Little Elm and Frisco, including at FC Dallas games.

JuJu’s Coffee on La Vista will open after inspections are complete, Rocha said, hopefully by the end of April. Eventually, they hope to have seating and sell food and their own roasted beans, too.

The store at will be open 7 a.m.-3 p.m. Monday-Saturday at 6038 La Vista Drive.
