Jin-Ya Huang was recognized at the annual Leadership Forum and Awards Celebration, which raised $475,000 for the foundation. The event celebrates seven women who have made positive impacts in the lives of women and girls.

Huang is the recipient of the Maura Women Helping Women Award. In 2017, she founded Break Bread, Break Borders, a nonprofit that partners with local chefs to teach immigrant women the culinary and business skills needed to be successful on their own.

Huang’s mother, Margaret, was passionate about hiring immigrant women at the family restaurant and teaching them to cook. When she died of cancer in 2015, Huang felt compelled to honor her mother and continue the good work of empowering vulnerable women.

Other award recipients include Trisha Cunningham, Rani Puranik, Kim Roxie, Judy Trevino, Cheryl Polote Williamson and Diana Mao.
