The exhibit highlights schools and other public education facilities built or renovated in the last five years. A twelve-member panel of school board members, school administrators and members of the Association for Learning Environments select candidates. The panel also awarded Stars of Distinction for Excellence to 34 schools for design, value, innovation, community, planning or school transformation. Jill Stone Elementary received distinction for design and school transformation.

According to Dallas’s ISD’s blog, Stone’s $57.2 million building opened its doors to students last fall. It is located a few blocks away from its old building, which now serves as the temporary home for Geneva Heights Elementary while their new building is built. The new Stone building is a three-story, 82,000-square-feet facility. While it was intended to primarily relieve overcrowding in the old Stone building, its completion also helped reduce overcrowding at nearby Hotchkiss Elementary.

The Exhibit of School Architecture highlighted Stone and the other selected projects at txEDCON22, which was held from Sept. 23-24 in San Antonio. The exhibit’s website will be updated shortly to provide more information about this year’s honorees.
