Talk about a knife in the heart to some big names in Dallas: Check out this story by Jim Schutze in the Dallas Observer about the inland port project in South Dallas that he says is foundering because some politicians are giving the appearance that they might be "shaking down" the developer; what they’re doing may not be illegal, but it’s sure questionable. In fact, the person talkng about a shakedown is non other than U.S. Rep. Eddie Bernice Johnson. Schutze’s story is a powerful piece about a major Dallas initiative that would/could help us all, and Schutze’s writing seems to be having an impact: So far, Mayor Tom Leppert and the North Central Texas Council of Governments have changed positions on a study proposal that the property owners say just isn’t necessary. What does it mean to those of us living in a neighborhood not directly impacted by the proposed inland port? Jobs anywhere in Dallas are good for all of us, so if what Schutze is saying pans out, we need to get behind this deal.
