Authorities said Thursday the off-duty officer who was critically injured in a racing crash near White Rock Lake has died.

Officer Joseph M. George died Tuesday on Christmas Eve from injuries he sustained in the crash.

In a statement released Thursday, the department said that it “wishes to express its deepest condolences to the family of officer Joseph Michael George. Please keep his family and friends in your thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.”

Funeral services are pending.

George joined the department in 2015 and worked the Northeast Patrol Division.

He had been in critical condition at Baylor University Medical Center since Sunday, when he crashed his Ford Mustang into a tree in the 7200 block of East Mockingbird Lane just after 1:30 p.m.

Authorities identified the officer who was injured in a street racing crash Sunday near White Rock Lake.

Joseph George was off duty when he crashed his Ford Mustang into a tree during a race with a white two-door Suzuki.

The four-year veteran of the department remained in critical condition Monday at Baylor University Medical Center, police said.

Officers are still looking for the Suzuki driver.
