Dallas ISD pre-k registration kicks off April 2, and I strongly encourage eligible families to sign up their child.

Research shows that 90 percent of human brain development happens before age 5, which makes pre-K a critical year in setting up a child for lifelong learning. Also, the latest data shows that students who attend pre-K and stick with Dallas ISD are significantly outperforming other groups of students by grade three.

Parents can apply at their preferred Dallas ISD campus or through the online link at www.prekdallas.org.

Dallas ISD pre-K is free to families who meet at least one of these eligibility requirements:

  1. The child is eligible to take part in the national free or reduced-price school lunch program.
  2. The child is unable to speak and comprehend the English language.
  3. The child is homeless.
  4. The child is a dependent of an active duty member of the U.S. armed forces.
  5. The child is or has been in foster care.

Children that do not meet any of those eligibility requirements can still attend pre-k through the growing tuition-based program. In District 2, Preston Hollow Elementary, Ben Milam Elementary and Robert E. Lee Elementary all offer tuition-based pre-K.

Each Dallas ISD pre-K school day is structured, while still allowing time for play, to ensure each student is put on a path to success. All of our pre-K teachers are certified and receive ongoing professional development to help keep them at the top of their game.

In other District 2 news…

The National Football Foundation (NFF) Gridiron Club of Dallas Chapter recognized scholar-athletes Jose Diaz from Hillcrest High School, Tykedreaus Elder from North Dallas High School and Travis West from Woodrow Wilson High School during the chapter’s 10th Annual Awards Banquet.

A big thank you to United to Learn for helping beautify Preston Hollow Elementary School. I had the pleasure of joining the volunteers to paint the school’s gym.

Discover Summer is set for Saturday, April, 7 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., at Emmett. J. Conrad High School. During this event, parents and students will be able to explore and discover all summer enrichment programs offered in Dallas ISD, to engage students in extended learning opportunities and keep them active during the summer months in fun and enriching ways.
