Hong Kong Restaurant in the White Rock Shopping Center closed earlier this month.
The Dallas Morning News called the Garland Road eatery “Dallas’ longest continuously operating Chinese restaurant.” Hong Kong was open for more than 60 years.
Bill Pon, who had previously been a chef in San Francisco, opened Hong Kong Restaurant in 1962 on Garland Road. The restaurant was responsible for advancing Chinese-American food in Dallas, and Pon, who passed away in 1971, liked sharing his Chinese heritage with the community, according to The Dallas Morning News report.
Hong Kong Restaurant’s menu, according to its website, included classics like wonton soup, sesame chicken, pork dumplings, fried rice and shrimp lo mein.
