The Higginbotham house is one of the most beautiful homes on Swiss Avenue. Built in 1913 by architecture firm Lang & Witchell, the home was designed for Rufus W. Higginbotham, a founder of the largest wholesale dry goods business in the South during the early 1900s.

The home at 5002 Swiss Ave. is considered one of the “purest” Prairie School-style homes and is often mistaken as a Frank Lloyd Wright house.

The architectural integrity of the home has remained, but the residence has changed hands over the years. On the Pioneers of Dallas County Facebook page, Kristi Kirby Underwood provided a glimpse into the home during the 1950s, when her great-grandparents, Frank and Cozette Moore, lived there with her grandparents.

It’s clear it was a different era. If the furniture doesn’t tip you off, look for what appears to be snow on the ground.
