Owner Nick Backlund cited permitting issues as the reason for Hide’s closure, as reported by The Dallas Morning News. Specifically, he was trying to get a permit to stay open until 2 a.m. instead of midnight. Long story short — he said he put in a lot of time and money trying to get this permit, but the City Plan Commission recommended denial.

“The whole process is just a convoluted mess, and it’s really silly,” Backlund said to The Dallas Morning News. It “was put into place many years ago to prevent bad actors, but I’m not a bad actor.”

Hide first opened in 2017 in Deep Ellum  but moved to Greenville Avenue in 2022.
