After a long, hard, grueling wait, Casa View neighbors finally received some long-awaited good news: Gus Thomasson road is open to the public.
District 9 City Councilwoman Paula Blackmon announced the news Friday on Facebook.
The right side of the westbound lane will remain closed as contractors continue to work on lighting and landscaping, but neighbors can certainly see the light at the end of this very long tunnel.
Construction on Gus Thomasson began in October 2017 as part of a project to revitalize the Casa View neighborhood. Neighbors became increasingly frustrated with the project as it lagged for more than two years. In May 2019, residents placed inflatable ducks in a pool of water that had accumulated in a work zone to draw attention to the unfinished project.
Neighbors may have lost Lake Casa View, but a new road, sans potholes, isn’t a bad alternative.
