The restaurant is hosting its ninth-annual Slices for Supplies event. On Sept. 14, anyone who drops by the pizza place with donations of pencils, pens, folders, notebooks or other supplies will receive a free slice of pizza with one topping.

Neighbors can also give cash donations, and GAPCo will match.

The donations will go to students at Ignacio Zaragoza Elementary and Truett Elementary, where GAPCo owner Sammy Mandell attended as a child.

Mandell, an East Dallas native, opened the Greenville Avenue pizza joint when he was 24 years old. At the time, the only restaurant experience he had was being a server at the Casa Linda Chili’s.

Greenville Avenue Pizza Company has two locations: 1923 Greenville Ave. and 1145 Peavy Road.

Donations will be accepted 5-8 p.m. Sept. 14.
