As Deb Crabb and Millie Winston’s catering service grew bigger and busier, they found a way to make the lives of others a little easier. These service-minded entrepreneurs earned their reputation as two of Lakewood’s most in-demand cooks during more than 10 years catering for the community. They started out by lending their culinary skills and time — a whole lot of it — to the Skillman Church of Christ, catering church events and preparing meals for weekly fellowship dinners at Grace Café (a.k.a. the church gymnasium). Pretty soon, buzz about the women’s fabulous fare spread to the secular community. Today they are able to meet East Dallas’ demand for their delicious dishes through the Grace Café Casserole Club. Here’s how it works: Crabb and Winston create a school year (September—May) meal calendar. Busy moms and anyone else can order homemade dinners in advance, which they pick up curbside at 6850 Velasco each Thursday. The dinners range from $15 (3-4 adult servings) to $50 (8 servings), not bad for a service many of their customers deem priceless. Crabb says many Casserole Club customers order the whole 14-week service (which gives them a 10 percent discount). “They get a different meal every week, and all they have to do is pick it up and heat it up.”
