Gingerman construction 1

It seems like everybody wants in on the patio action these days — Goodfriend, HG Sply, Liberty Burger, Chip’s, the new Snuffer’s, and *insert all the other bars and restaurants I’m forgetting here*

Gingerman construction 3Looks like we can add the upcoming Ginger Man Pub in Lakewood Shopping Center to the list. Actually, patios are kind of Ginger Man’s “thing.” All their other locations have one, although they’ve been forced to shake things up a bit with the Lakewood location.

They couldn’t get the license for a beer garden out front because there wasn’t enough room, says Steve Schiff with the Ginger Man. And they didn’t want to put it beside the dumpsters (a wise choice), so they’ve decided to build it into the upstairs.

When the location belonged to Angelo’s Italian Restaurant, owner Bernadette Fisher used the upstairs as a private dining lounge. Over the last couple of weeks, crews have been knocking out walls and rebuilding the space into a semi-open porch. They’ll “winterize it” during the cold months, Schiff says, with a pull-down wall and plastic covers on the windows.

Gingerman construction 4The downstairs has been gutted out and opened up to make one main room. There will be a bar along the right-hand wall (from the front entrance), where they will serve more than 100 specialty brews. Ginger Man specializes in beer and will only have a beer and wine license, so no liquor on the premise.

Ginger Man prides itself on being a “neighborhood pub,” Schiff says. “We’re not loud, and we support neighborhood stuff. We’re good neighbors, and I think we’ll be a good addition to the neighborhood.”
